October 31, 2026
Great Schools, Growing Neighborhoods, and Plenty of Reasons to Stay
If you've been looking for the right location to build in or around Fort Wayne, there's a good chance Northwest Allen County has caught your attention. The area around Huntertown and northwest Fort Wayne has been growing for years, and it's easy to understand why. There's room for new neighborhoods, plenty of nearby shopping and restaurants, and a school district that continues to attract homebuyers.
A School District Worth Considering
For families with school-age children, Northwest Allen County Schools (NACS) is often a big part of the decision.
The district includes eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and Carroll High School, which reported a 97% graduation rate for 2025. NACS also recorded a 96.1% passing rate on Indiana's third-grade reading assessment that year, the highest among Allen County's four public school districts.
Even if you don't have children in school, it's worth paying attention to the district when choosing where to build since location affects resale value.
What About Home Prices?
Homes in the Huntertown area have been holding their value. According to Redfin, the median home sale price was approximately $343,000 in September 2026, up 1.4% from the previous year. Of course, prices will vary depending on the neighborhood, lot size, and the home that you are hoping to build.
Plenty to Do Close to Home
One of the nicest things about living in northwest Allen County is how convenient everything has become. The Dupont Road corridor offers grocery stores, restaurants, medical facilities, and shopping, while I-69 makes getting around Fort Wayne fairly easy.
Huntertown Family Park is another local favorite, with walking trails, playgrounds, pickleball, and a dog park. There's plenty of open space around the area, too, especially as you head farther north.
