For the Thomas family, Real Estate has always been personal.
Long before Oakmont Development became part of neighborhoods across Greater Fort Wayne, Mike Thomas was building a name in local real estate. He launched his career in the early 1970s and went on to create Mike Thomas Associates, a full-service real estate company that has grown into one of the area’s most recognized names. Today, MTA includes more than 120 agents and has been led by Mike’s daughter, Jennifer Callison, since 2012.
As that company grew, Mike saw another way to serve the community. He began focusing on land development, helping create the kinds of neighborhoods where families could put down roots, grow, and feel at home.
Building Places People Call Home
In the 1980s, Mike partnered on his first residential neighborhood. That work eventually grew into Oakmont Development, a multi-generational family business built around thoughtful planning, strong relationships, and a deep understanding of Northeast Indiana.
When Jeff Thomas joined the land development business in 1990, Oakmont continued to grow. Since then, Mike and Jeff have helped develop more than 10,000 lots throughout the region. Jeff has originated dozens of subdivisions across Northeast Indiana and guides the planning process from initial concept through final details, working with city leaders, contractors, and builders along the way.
His focus has always been practical and personal. A neighborhood needs to be well planned, convenient, and affordable, but it also needs to feel inviting. It should make sense for the people who live there every day.
The Next Generation
In 2021, AJ Thomas joined Oakmont Development as the third-generation family member in real estate development. His work supports the field planning and execution process through the many stages of development, while also helping maintain strong relationships with contractors.
For AJ, the work is about carrying forward the family values that shaped Oakmont from the start. Each generation has added something to the company, but the purpose has stayed steady: build communities that serve real families and strengthen the Fort Wayne area.
